The sailing world has lost one of its most familiar and endearing faces. A much-appreciated member of the sailing family, Stephane Siohan has left us, aged just 54. This lover of the sea and of nature leaves behind him the image of a man of integrity, discreet and a great deal of professionalism.

A decade of loyalty and rigor

After three years with the Navicom team, Stephane joined NKE in 2011, recruited by Paul Fraisse. Currently on a stopover in the Azores, he was kind enough to tell us about his meeting with Stephane, whom he has worked alongside for 10 years:

"It was in September 2011, in Douarnenez, at the start of a Mini 6.50, that Stephane crossed paths with the NKE team. The meeting, informal but decisive, took place in a local bistro. The connection was immediate. A handshake was enough: a week later, he joined the company.

During the ten years we worked together, Stephane established himself as a committed, rigorous man with a solid technical culture. Not only did he understand the products, but also their uses, as he came from a sailing background. This practical knowledge of the field enabled him to translate the needs of racers and yachtsmen into reliable solutions, and to support users effectively, even in the most challenging situations. Stephane was a discreet, humble person, but much appreciated by our users. We went through a few storms, during which he always remained calm, listening, and looking for the right solutions. "

A reassuring presence

Sailors and business partners knew they could count on him. His availability, his ability to listen, and his calmness in an emergency made him an invaluable contact on the pontoons. His technical and interpersonal skills often played a decisive role in NKE's development. His professionalism was matched only by his discretion.

Trained at the Institut Nautique de Bretagne, he has always kept in touch with the school, which has enabled him to make a living from his passion, by hosting trainees at boat shows, or taking part in various selection juries.

A man of values and convictions

Beyond the purely professional aspects, Stéphane was a man of reflection. With a master's degree in chemistry and plant biology, he was happy to share his views on a wide range of subjects: human relations, politics, economics and inequalities. This curiosity and sensitivity enriched his day-to-day relationships. For those who worked alongside him, these exchanges were an integral part of our shared adventure. He was proud of both his Breton and Basque roots, skilfully handling these two cultures with strong identities.

A dignified fight to the finish

Stephane has battled illness with the same dignity that has characterized him throughout his career. Until recently, he had been struggling to put together a crew for this summer's Tour de France sailing race. His last exchanges, just a few days before his death, bear witness to the lucidity and elegance of the man he was.

To his family, his loved ones, and the entire NKE team, the Boatindustry editorial team extends its sincerest condolences.
