Cherbourg seeks to revitalize its marina by attracting new nautical companies

The town of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin is opening six plots of land on the Chantereyne harbor technical platform, with the aim of strengthening the local nautical industry. The call for expressions of interest launched in May 2025 aims to attract new players in boat building, maintenance and sales.

A call for projects to structure the local industry

As part of the new concession for the Chantereyne marina, renewed at the end of 2023 for a further fifteen years with Ports de Normandie, the City of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin is taking a proactive approach to maritime economic development. An investment budget of 7.5 million euros is planned, part of which will be devoted to modernizing infrastructures and diversifying activities.

The call for expressions of interest (AMI) published in May 2025 concerns six plots available for lease for temporary occupation of the public maritime domain. These plots, ranging in size from 270 to 700 square meters, are located on the port's technical platform. They are available to companies wishing to set up or expand their activities in the nautical sector.

Strategically positioned to support the local economy

Today, around 200 jobs are linked to yachting and boating activities around Chantereyne harbor. The municipality wishes not only to consolidate this existing base, but also to encourage the emergence of new businesses, with a particular focus on the boat building, refit, repair, rental and sales segments.

Muriel Jozeau-Marigné, the deputy in charge of marinas, points out that this operation is aimed at creating a long-term dynamic to structure a local professional sector. The aim is also to increase Cherbourg's economic attractiveness, at a time when the Channel coast is experiencing a resurgence of interest in nautical activities, particularly pleasure boating.

A high-potential port environment

The Chantereyne harbor, with its large berthing capacity and modernized infrastructure, offers a favorable setting for the development of industrial and craft activities related to the sea. The immediate proximity of floating docks, operational quays and an already structured economic fabric (maintenance, deck fittings, brokerage) provides leverage for project developers.

Interested candidates have until August 31, 2025 to submit their applications. The specifications emphasize the complementarity of activities, the economic sustainability of the project, and the contribution to the structuring of a local value chain. A selection committee will examine projects in line with the concession's priorities.

With this call for projects, Cherbourg is strengthening its port development strategy around a mixed model, combining yachting, technical services and job creation. The Chantereyne harbor is proving to be a high-potential area for companies wishing to be part of a dynamic and changing maritime environment.
