Nanni: A strategy based on hybrid engines and digital technology

On the occasion of the Cannes Yachting Festival and its 75th anniversary, the engine manufacturer Nanni unveiled its objectives for the coming years. A strategy that anticipates the changes to come in marine motorization and puts the emphasis on digital technology.

75 years of marine engines

Nanni took advantage of the Cannes Yachting Festival to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The engine manufacturer, founded in Milan in 1952, has had time to make a name for itself in the field of marine engines. After starting out by marinizing Farymann industrial blocks, the company now based in La Teste de Buch, next to the Arcachon Basin, adapts engine bases of well-known brands, having started with Kubota and Mercedes, then Toyota since the year 2000, John Deere in 2014 and Scania in 2018. Nanni also completes its offer on high-powered engines, by distributing MAN engines in France and in French-speaking countries.

Pursuing growth with a green shift

In 2022, Nanni is pleased with a growth of 35%, achieved thanks to good stock management in the context of global shortage. To continue this pace, the warehouse is aware of the need for change in marine motorization. It is insisting on abandoning the name Nanni Diesel in favor of the simple Nanni. An "Ecology for 2030" initiative has been launched.

Nanni range

In this context, Nanni insists on the development of hybrid, electric and hydrogen ranges. While MAN has launched its first two hydrogen hybrid engines, Nanni is working on hybrid electric solutions. In 2009, the brand launched its first in-line hybrid systems, with an electric motor-generator inserted between the combustion engine and the gearbox. In a more mature market, Nanni should be able to find customers more easily.

A new innovative engine is announced, without further details, for January 2023.

Digitize the company

In addition to product development, Nanni has been undergoing a digital transformation since 2020. This transformation, which began in industrial management, is reflected in the appearance of new digital platforms such as the e-learning platform, a new after-sales service portal called NSP (Nanni Service Portal), which is scheduled to be launched in October, and the modernization of the company's information system, ERP. Baptiste Berbille, who arrived to launch this project, is now deploying it more widely: "We are working to deploy this digital aspect in all areas, commercial or maintenance."
