BRP introduces the Rotax "ghost" outboards, successors of Evinrude

The first Rotax outboards are born

2 years after the end of the Evinrude engine brand, the BRP group is back with a new outboard engine concept under its Rotax brand, invisible above the boat's deck.

Launch of Rotax outboard engines

The BRP group has presented its brand new outboard engines. Developed by its Rotax brand, this is the culmination of the Ghost project, launched at the end of 2019, even before the Canadian industrialist announced the end of its famous 2-stroke engine brand Evinrude. The new Rotax outboards, with a power of 115 or 150 horsepower, are for the moment only offered in motorization of the group's boats, namely the Manitou, Alumacraft and Quintrex brands.

An invisible speedboat

The engine block of the Rotax outboard is much lower than that of a traditional outboard. It disappears under the rear platform, making it invisible from the boat. The engine gains a large useful surface on the rear deck, approaching a layout with a sterndrive propulsion system. However, the engine remains outside the hull, facilitating potential disassembly.

Competitive and low emission engines

The new Rotax outboard has also been developed in terms of environmental performance. The manufacturer claims that it is 20 percent more fuel efficient than competing outboards of the same horsepower, and has 12 percent lower emissions overall, with carbon monoxide emissions as high as 98 percent lower at idle.

Thanks to its location and semi-submerged nature, the Rotax outboard also boasts a low noise level, improving boater comfort.

While it is not yet marketed independently of the boats and therefore its pricing alone is not available, BRP says its technology offers a competitive cost that is reflected in the pricing of the 9 new Manitou, Alumacraft and Quintrex models.
