Cyclone: Raymarine launches new compact radar with updated styling

Raymarine has announced a new line of radar products for recreational and professional boats. The marine electronics specialist is targeting high-speed boats and small, high-end powerboats with the new Cyclone, which features an updated design.

Cyclone: a new solid state radar from Raymarine

At the Fort Lauderdale boat show, Raymarine is introducing its new Cyclone beam radar. Using solid state technology with the CHIRP pulse compression system already introduced by the marine electronics specialist on its Quantum range, this new product is targeted at small, high-end cruising powerboats and offshore fishing vessels in all weather conditions.

A compact and streamlined radar

The Cyclone's exterior styling stands out from the majority of offerings on the market. Beyond the look, Raymarine's designers went to great lengths to create a compact design that can be mounted on vessels with limited roof and mast space. At only 335 mm high, the radar has an integrated base to elegantly hide cables and connections. The announced weight is only 23 kilos.

The profile of the radar beam has been shaped like an airplane wing to limit the forces in the air during rotation. This allows it to operate in winds of up to 100 knots without damaging the unit. In addition to its professional clientele, Raymarine intends to satisfy recreational fishermen sailing at high speeds with a headwind on sheltered waters, creating high apparent winds. The Cyclone's 60 RPM rotation speed makes it suitable for fast boats.

A modular offer

The Cyclone radar is available in 6 configurations to meet various needs. The Cyclone range, mainly intended for pleasure boaters, has a power of 5W, equivalent to 6kW with a classic magnetron. The Cyclone Pro version, for more demanding uses, has a power of 110W, equivalent to 12 kW. Each can be offered with a 3, 4 or 6 inch long antenna.

The new radar benefits from Raymarine's target detection technologies, with a bird detection system that hunts the surface of the water to find schools of fish, as well as the Range Fusion system that allows two frequencies to be used in parallel to maintain accuracy at both close and long range from the boat.

Aimed at a high-end audience and demanding users, the Cyclone is priced between 6,495euros and 7,495euros for the recreational version and up to 8995euros for the most powerful Pro version. The first devices should be available in November 2021.
