Myor: A docking assistance device in search of partners

Docking with the Myor device

Italian designer Luigi Ramari has designed Myor, a mooring aid for pleasure boats. He is now looking for partners to finalize the development and expand its distribution to boaters.

Facilitate mooring maneuvers

The Myor device, for My ormeggio, which means mooring in Italian, was born from the mind of a boater, Luigi Ramari. The Lombard entrepreneur, who is also a designer for the automotive sector, started from his own experience and the difficulties he encountered when maneuvering in port. He worked on a solution to facilitate the mooring of boats at the quayside on a pendulum, as is customary in the Mediterranean. "He made the first prototypes in 2019, named Myor One and Myor Two. A patent has been filed and the 1st models were finalized in the summer of 2020" reports Federica Bock, who is accompanying Luigi Ramari in the launch of the product.

A flexible equipment to leave at the dock

The Myorflex system is designed for sailing and motor boats up to 16 meters. It consists of a flexible frame and straps, attached to the dock, overhanging the water. An equivalent device is fixed at the head of the mooring buoy for the bow. When returning to the harbor, the yachtsman backs up to the dock, but instead of having to attach his hawsers to the shore, he simply throws 2 grabs through the Myor frame. By engaging the forward gear, the grapples get stuck in the frame, keeping the boat at the desired distance from the dock. The crew only has to retrieve the hanger or hook the buoy with a stabilized boat. He can then back up and pass the traditional mooring lines on the quay, without risk of damaging his transom, as shown in the video at the end of the article.

Find a distributor to offer Myor to boaters

The technical solution is now validated for Luigi Ramari, who wants to move on to commercial development. For this, Myor wants to join forces with companies in the nautical industry. "We are looking for partners to massify the production and marketing, in Italy and in Europe. Today, there are only a few products made by Luigi Ramari" explains Federica Bock. All the port managers testify that the fear of the pontoon catching maneuver is one of the main obstacles for their customers. The validity of Myor's solution may be debated, but perhaps it is a step towards making people want to continue discovering the art of maneuvering, without the need for a grab!
