Genevos to supply 40kW hydrogen fuel cells for production dayboat

MadBlue Hydrogen Daybook

Hydrogen marine fuel cell specialist Genevos announces the signature of its first supply agreement for its 40 kW HPM-40 module for a production dayboat built in Spain. A breakthrough in a key yachting market," explains Rebecca Sharp, co-founder of Genevos.

A hydrogen-powered dayboat demonstrator

Genevos and MadBlue Marine have formalized their partnership for the Spanish shipyard's dayboat project. Genevos will supply MadBlue Marine with its HPM-40 module, rated at 40 kW, the main power source for the Madrid-based manufacturer's first 8-meter dayboat. In addition to the battery module, Genevos will also support the shipyard in the design and definition of the gas storage system, its supply and assistance with commissioning.

The boat, fitted with a 140 kW electric motor and high-voltage batteries, is currently under construction and is due to be launched in December 2023, before a series of trials and a presentation at Mediterranean and Middle Eastern boat shows. The first production models are expected in the 3rd quarter of 2024.

A showcase for the yachting industry

MadBlue Marine is counting on this 8-meter dayboat to act as a demonstrator in its strategy to promote green hydrogen in the maritime sector. This is also the case for Genevos, for whom this first OEM partnership on the HPM-40 could open the way to others on a key power in yachting, as Rebecca Sharp, co-founder of the company, points out: "Our work with Madblue Marine in their global approach to this hydrogen boat is perfectly consistent with Genevos' values and missions, for clean and resilient navigation on our oceans. The 40 kW of the HPM-40 module are suitable for a wide range of boats, from small passenger vessels and fishing boats to pleasure craft. They are particularly suited to catamarans, where we can have two independent systems, one in each hull with redundancy."
