RS Sailing expands its range with the Aira 22, a day boat designed for family cruising

RS Sailing, the British builder of lightweight sailboats, has announced the acquisition of the production and distribution license for the Aira 22, a keelboat designed by Dutchman Jos Snijders Blok. This integration marks a strategic step for RS Sailing, which is expanding its portfolio to include larger sailboats, suitable for leisure sailing with family and friends.

A strategic shift towards leisure sailing

Historically rooted in the production of high-performance dinghies, RS Sailing is broadening its scope with a new-generation day boat. This model, now called RS Aira 22, marks an evolution towards more recreational sailing, without abandoning the fundamentals of performance, sturdiness and ease of handling.

Designed for a wide audience, this yacht is ideal for sailing schools, charter centers and individuals looking for a family boat for coastal day cruising.

An accessible, stable and spacious sailboat

At 6.50 meters long and 2.20 meters wide, the RS Aira 22 has a modern, well-balanced hull. It is fitted with a 250 kg lead bulb keel offering excellent return torque, for reassuring stability. With a displacement of 750 kg, it is easy to transport and launch.

The sails include a 14 m² mainsail, an 8 m² jib and a generous 28 m² gennaker for dynamic downwind performance. The simplified rigging makes it easy to get the hang of, even for inexperienced crews.

A cockpit designed for comfort and versatility

The cockpit has been designed to accommodate up to six adults, with a high boom for greater clearance, a fold-down center table and open seating. The whole layout is comfortable, ergonomic and practical for leisure use.

An optional retractable electric motor facilitates maneuvering in port or in rough seas, without impinging on the sailing experience.

A response to the demands of modern yachting

The RS Aira 22 is part of an underlying trend in the yachting industry: accessible, easy-to-use boats, adapted to a variety of uses without sacrificing a pleasant sailing experience. This day boat is the ideal bridge between dinghy sailing and cruising, appealing to a multi-generational audience.

By adding this yacht to its range, RS Sailing confirms its commitment to supporting the transformation of sailing practices and providing concrete answers to the changing expectations of sailors.
