Editorial / Boat shows: Will regional events replace national ones?

Between the announcement of the new Nautic en Seine in the Île-de-France region and the birth of boat shows on various parts of the French coastline, the question of how to link local and regional boat shows is as topical as ever.

The Nautic goes afloat and changes its name (a little)

One year after its last edition and the announcement of a blank year in 2023, the Nautic and Nautical Industries Federation - FIN - teams presented the key elements of their future event, with an updated name: Nautic en Seine . Now afloat, on the Seine in Boulogne-Billancourt, the boat show will be held from October 15 to 20, 2024, rather than in early December, as was the tradition. With just over 200 boats expected to be exhibited, Nautic en Seine promises to be in line with recent editions in terms of the number of units to be discovered, the big novelty for Parisian visitors being the presence of boats afloat. La FIN, the national representative of the industry in contact with boatbuilders and not just dealers, aims to maintain the event's national scope, which has yet to be consolidated.

Regional trade shows abound

The dynamics of regional boat shows are strong today. Those already in place in the spring are capitalizing on a regular visitor base and expanding their offer, like Mille Sabords, while new events are emerging, strengthened this year by the absence of Nautic. At the beginning of December 2023, Marseille saw the arrival of the 1st edition of MedIn Voile on the Vieux-Port, while professionals in Ajaccio announced an event for November 2024. This December, dealers are holding their "salon" in many ports.

Is the Paris showcase effect still strong? Are local trade shows well on the way to establishing themselves as real sales and outreach vectors? The returns from 2023 and 2024 will undoubtedly be closely scrutinized.
