Perini: New lifeline launched for superyacht manufacturer

Perini Navi shipyard in Viareggio

The horizon is clearing for Italian superyacht specialist Perini Navi, with the promise of an agreement for new investors to join Fenix in the bankrupt company.

The Clessidra fund to the rescue of Perini Navi

The Italian shipyard Perini Navi, specialist in sailing and motor superyachts, had been declared bankrupt on January 29, 2021 . The high-end boat builder had accumulated significant debts for many years. Several buyers, including a joint venture between the Ferretti Group and the San Lorenzo shipyard, called Newco have declared their interest. The latter say they are ready to buy the company as soon as the Florence Court of Appeal has given its judgment. But in this case, a new element has come into play with the request to the court by the holding Fenix, owned by the great Italian fortune Fenix, majority shareholder of Perini Navi to reverse the liquidation. To prepare for such a situation, the holding company has just announced in the Italian press the signature of an agreement with the Clessidra fund and a private investor for their entry into the capital. The envelope mentioned by the local daily Il Tirreno is 50 Meuros, of which 38 Meuros by the investment fund.

An offer to be taken with caution

The announcement by the Fenix holding company has left observers cautious. Indeed, before the liquidation procedure of Perini Navi, the group had already announced the implementation of a rescue plan for the troubled shipyard. It was then the Blue Sky fund for a loan of 30 Meuros signed on June 18. This fund withdrew a few days later, forcing the start of legal proceedings.
