Takeover negotiations to avoid bankruptcy of Perini Navi superyachts

The Maltese Falcon built by Perini Navi

The Italian tall ship builder Perini Navi could join the Sanlorenzo group, a specialist in large motor yachts. The negotiations would create a major player in the transalpine luxury yacht industry.

Sanlorenzo to the rescue of Perin Navi in difficulty

The Italian yacht builder Perini Navi SpA, founded in 1983 by Fabio Perini, is experiencing significant financial difficulties. Notably known for the construction of the Maltese Falcon, the shipyard based in Tuscany and Liguria is now controlled by the company Fenix Srl, owned by the Tabacchi family. Faced with rumors of bankruptcy, it was announced that negotiations had been opened with the Sanlorenzo group, another well-known player in the Italian nautical industry. The latter has indicated that it has obtained an exclusive period for the analysis of a possible transaction to become the majority shareholder of Perini Navi.

Complementarity between sailing and motor superyachts

Located in the same Italian cradle of yachting between La Spezia and Viareggio, the two companies could benefit from interesting synergies, both in commercial and industrial terms. The addition of the Perini Navi brand to Sanlorenzo's catalog would continue the group's policy of developing and expanding its offer after the acquisition of the Bluegame motorboats in 2019

Sanlorenzo is currently structured around 3 ranges

  • The Yacht Division: composite motorboats from 24 to 38 meters
  • The Superyacht Division: aluminum and steel vessels from 40 to 68 meters
  • The Bluegame division: sport boats from 13 to 22 meters

In 2019, the group employed 500 people for a turnover of 546 Meuros and a profit of 27 Meuros. It had successfully opened its capital in 2019.
