Mercury Marine appoints new European Director

Martin Bass

Martin Bass has been appointed President of Mercury Marine EMEA. Familiar with the market, he intends to continue the development of the engine manufacturer in Europe.

An internal appointment

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy of Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, Martin Bass joined Mercury Marine in 2006. He was previously Vice President of the Mercury Product Category Management Group. He succeeds Mike Shedivy, who has been with Brunswick Corporation since 2013, joining another subsidiary.

Continued development

According to Mercury Marine President John Pfeiffer, Martin Bass is"the ideal choice" to continue Mercury's dynamism in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East Africa) region, as he already has a good knowledge of strategy, production plans, technology and geography acquired in his previous roles. Europe accounted for 15% of the Brunswick Group's engine and sterndrive sales in the first quarter of 2016, the first market after the United States. The old continent showed the strongest growth over the period.

"After working with the EMEA team in my previous position, I am looking forward to working more closely with them and our dealers and distributors as we continue to expand our leadership in engines, parts and accessories in this vital region," said Bass.
