Annual review
The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) has published its 57th supplement to the Standards and Technical Information Report for Small Craft. This compendium, developed by the association of over 400 volunteer experts from the American boating industry, presents standards and best practice guides for the construction and repair of pleasure craft. The supplements published each year enable the document to keep abreast of developments in technology and uses of yachting across the Atlantic. It is a useful tool for exporters to the United States.
What's new
As Brian Goodwin, ABYC's technical director, explains, the revision follows major trends in propulsion. "The P-21 has been expanded to handle triple and quad outboard installations and now we also have a standard that deals with electric propulsion in the E-30. It is essential that boat builders and equipment manufacturers be aware of these changes. "

- E-30, Electric Propulsion Systems
- TH-12, Outboard Motor Mounting Guide
- TH-29, Wastewater Systems
Many standards have also been revised in areas as varied as the risks of carbon monoxide on board ships, seat structures or hydraulic steering systems. The complete list is available on the ABYC website. The association now also provides standards on the design of equipment for boating.
