AFPA launches a nautical training centre in Saint-Brieuc

Nautical platform of the AFPA training of the Légué St-Brieuc

AFPA opens a training course for marine maintenance officers at the port du Légué in Saint-Brieuc. A first step in the creation of a nautical training pole in North Brittany.

Versatile training

Training as a marine maintenance officer was already offered by AFPA in Equeurdreville-Hainneville, Le Havre, Rochefort and Marseille, and is now offered in Saint-Brieuc. With a generalist programme, covering all the activities necessary in the maintenance of pleasure boats, from painting to the fitting of fittings, including the use of composite materials, marine mechanics, rigging or the use of handling equipment, the training prepares you for work in a shipyard.

The one-year course is a diploma, offering a level 5 qualification, equivalent to a professional baccalaureate.

Development of a nautical training centre

The opening of the new curriculum is the result of a four-year process between AFPA and local authorities. While the agglomeration and the city of Saint-Brieuc wish to develop the port of Le Légué so that it becomes the first technical port of call in Northern Brittany, AFPA saw the opportunity to accompany this economic movement. In consultation with local nautical stakeholders, the first training chosen was that of pleasure marine maintenance agent. Selected in a call for tenders from Brittany, the project is financed by the region.

A technical platform was installed in temporary premises made available by the agglomeration and the CCI, before the opening of new buildings dedicated to training. AFPA's approach is in line with that of the Brittany region to support the nautical offer. The organization wishes to create in the long term a nautical training pole for North Brittany, by widening its offer of courses.
