ID Composite, a platform for a better composite in boating

Infusion training at ID Composite

Between training and research, the ID Composite platform of Saint Brieuc works for a better practice of composites in the nautical industry.

An applied university platform

Based in Saint-Brieuc, ID Composite is a technical and training centre specialising in polymer and composite transformation processes. It relies in particular on the skills and technical resources of the Saint-Brieuc IUT to develop products and processes through innovative solutions. The structure is part of the Brittany Composite network which brings together public R&D players in composite materials.

Business support and training

Among ID Composite's activities, supporting companies in the application of new composite processes is important. Many nautical companies, such as Structure and Marine Composites, benefited from this during the transition to infusion, a delicate transition that still affects many shipyards. The platform can also advise companies wishing to use the Eco RTM.

ID Composite also offers training courses à la carte, in St-Brieuc or on the company's premises, on topics ranging from the discovery of materials to implementation techniques, including safety and risk prevention

Research

In addition to consulting activities, ID Composite also conducts research projects related to boating. The team is currently working on a systematic study on sanding in the workshops in order to improve the gluing processes. The objective is to limit the sanding required, and the resulting dust, by choosing suitable adhesives and primers and thus improve productivity and working conditions.

In partnership with the Fédération des Industries Nautiques, ID Composite also seeks to collect as much feedback as possible in order to improve risk prevention, particularly related to styrenes.
