Royal Huisman takes over Holland Jachtbouw's premises

Buildings of Holland Jachtbouw, taken over by Royal Huisman

The Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman takes over the premises of its compatriot Holland Jachtbouw. A beautiful extension for a renowned shipyard in the field of large yachts.

Sad circumstances

The takeover of the Holland Jachtbouw (HJB) facility in Amsterdam by Royal Huisman follows the death of HJB founder Chris Gongriep in December 2016. The HJB yard will indeed cease its activity.

Roemer Boogaard, Executive Director of Royal Huisman explains. "We regret to see a yard like HJB cease to exist, but we hope that with Royal Huisman's willingness to buy the construction site, we will be able to keep the Netherlands firmly on the superyacht owners map, keeping in mind our diversification plans in the sailing and motor yacht sector

A remarkable history

Founded 25 years ago by Chris Gongriep, the Holland Jachtbouw shipyard leaves behind some extraordinary boats. We can quote Windrose of Amsterdam, Athos, Heureka, and the two class J, Rainbow and Topaz. Holland Jachtbouw also built the motoryachts Cassiopeia and Calliope. Two motoryachts announced in 2015 are still under construction.

A nice extension for Royal Huisman

The premises recovered by Royal Huisman in Amsterdam cover 12,000 m². They comprise three modern construction halls with a maximum length of 60 m. 120 m from quay to quay allow easy access to water, suitable for both new construction and refit.

This new site is in addition to Royal Huisman's historic base in Vollenhove, consisting of over 30,000 m² and 5 halls, and the recently acquired 300,000 m² use in Emden Dockyard in Germany.
