The Vendée Globe, a springboard for AFPA training

Village du Vendée Globe

AFPA will present all of its adult sailing courses in the Vendée Globe village. An opportunity to attract new candidates and present the many courses, from manufacturing to construction.

A wide range of training

Among the many visitors present in Les Sables d'Olonne for the start of the Vendée Globe, there are many vocations and dreams of working in boats. The reconversion of adults, active in other sectors, towards boating is an increasingly common activity for AFPA. The meticulousness of a seamstress can indeed work wonders in high performance composite.

To this end, AFPA will present its numerous training offers in the nautical and shipbuilding trades on its stand in the Vendée Globe village:

  • Marine Recreational Maintenance Officer
  • Marine Recreational Mechanic
  • Carpenter in nautical construction
  • Port agent/reception agent in marine pleasure craft
  • Multi-purpose operator in nautical construction
  • Composite laminator
  • Composite Materials Technician
  • High performance composite operator
  • Public works diver
  • Racing yacht preparer

A springboard for the training of racing yacht préparateur

At the beginning of October 2016, the Afpa d'Auray centre, the National Strategic Centre for Nautical and Maritime Activities, launched the first training course in France for"Race Sailing Vessel Preparers". Its objective is to train qualified people, with a good knowledge of the regulations and the rules of the art, able to work on any type of racing yacht. Whereas today preparers are generally self-taught, AFPA's ambition is to create a reference course.

The students of the first class will have the opportunity to come to the start of the Vendée Globe to exchange views and see the reality of the preparation of the yachts for the solo round the world race. They will also demonstrate seamanship for offshore racing on the AFPA stand.

Quilting and stratification workshops will be organised on the AFPA stand by trainees and trainers from the Auray and La Roche sur Yon centres, between 15 and 6 November.
