Sponsoring, Macif recruits its new skipper Figaro

The Skipper Macif 2016

The Skipper Macif program proved its worth again this year on the Figaro circuit. The insurer is looking for a new rider for his team. Bid until midnight tonight, September 23rd!

A sponsorship approach in development

Launched in 2008 by the insurer, the Skipper Macif programme to accompany young talented riders on the Figaro circuit is based on the team principle, which is being developed in sailing but has proved its worth in other sports. The selection of candidates is demanding and rigorous. Unlike the classic approach, it is not the runner who seeks to convince a sponsor, but the latter who chooses the sailor best able to enhance his image.

Rigorous selection

The finalists are selected on the basis of their applications. A final selection round then takes place in three phases:

  • tests
  • regattas on Figaro Bénéteau for the technical aspect
  • interview with a jury where the candidate must present his sports project (budget, training programme, prospects, associative support, etc.), for the relational and economic aspect, which has become essential in the seafarers' profession.

The deadline for applications is Friday, September 23, 2016 at midnight.

Support over 2 or 3 years

Les Skippers Macif is accompanied by the Macif team, in partnership with the French Sailing Federation via the"Centre d'Excellence National de Port-La-Forêt" (Finistère).

The accompaniment is of two years, with a third year possible according to the sporting results. The skipper is paid with an objective of results.

The rider benefits from the financial and operational support of the Macif team, as well as the experience of the other skippers on the team.

Brilliant Elders

The Macif skipper programme has enabled many talents to be discovered since its creation in 2008. We can mention François Gabart, still in the insurer's colours, or Paul Meilhat, today at the start of the Vendée Globe. On the Figaro circuit, Macif took the first two places in the French Elite Solo Offshore Racing Championship, won by Charlie Dalin and the victory over the Solitaire du Figaro by Yoann Richomme, who finished at the end of the programme.

Soon the Figaro 3

The new skipper Macif will have the opportunity to evolve in a Figaro class in full change, with the upcoming arrival of the Figaro 3, equipped with foils.

Response October 14

The name of the winner will be announced on October 14, after a week of selection among 5 of them, at the Pôle Finistère Course au Large de Port la Forêt.
