Starting from scratch
"The launch of the Day-One was prompted by Yacht Concept's observation that the day-charter catamaran market had not been renewed for over 10 years". Laurent Da Rold, formerly of Fountaine-Pajot and now a partner in Yacht Concept, a partner to numerous shipyards in the sector, says it all. Tired of modifying old models for historic players such as Fountaine Pajot or Ocean Voyager, the Yacht Concept team decided to work on a 100% new project.
This was an opportunity to rejuvenate the design compared with the round shapes of competitors, by integrating chines and inverted bows.
An exercise in style, not a range
The Day One website presents several examples of boats between 50 and 90 feet. These do not form a range, but are examples for the customer, who is invited to work with Yacht Concept to design a boat specifically for him.
Adapting the catamaran's behavior to the water surface
The day-charter must meet extremely precise specifications. Because they sail the same route every day, they have to meet different operating constraints in each sailing basin. This is why the Day-One is designed to offer the shipowner a tailor-made solution, as opposed to standard boats. To achieve this, all parameters can be adapted. In short chop conditions, for example, a high freeboard is favored, with a greater headroom than in milder conditions.
Adapting superstructures to the weather
Similarly, depending on the area of operation, exposure to the sun will be more or less important. The size of superstructures can be adapted to suit, with more or less openness depending on the risk of bad weather.
Regulatory optimization
Depending on the national regulations of the country where the boat sails, the number of passengers allowed varies. Moreover, depending on the charter company's commercial positioning, the capacity must also be adapted. That's why Day-One is able to respond specifically to each request. The examples shown range from 50 to 90 feet, to stay below the 24-meter regulatory limit, which is critical in terms of equipment requirements.
