Neel 51, fewer parts for more boats

With its new 51-foot trimaran, the Neel shipyard is optimising its manufacturing method to reduce costs and production times.

Fewer parts

For its new model, Neel is reducing the number of parts. Whereas the deck, beams and each hull are produced separately on the 45-footer, the new Neel 51 will have a limited number of parts, the deck in particular being produced in a single operation. This means fewer assemblies, which saves time and improves the quality of the finish. The result for the shipyard is a significant improvement in productivity.

Infusion construction

Introduced on the latest 45-footers, infusion construction will be generalized on the new model, bringing it closer to production construction standards.

Price comparable to a catamaran

The aim of this production rationalization is obviously to enable more aggressive commercial positioning. With these changes, the savings in labor costs mean that the Neel 51 can be offered at ?587,000 ex VAT in the basic version, and in a ready-to-sail configuration at around ?650,00 ex VAT. The new trimaran is now accessible on a budget comparable to that of a catamaran of the same size.

Pursuing an industrialization approach

While Neel moved into its new premises on the La Rochelle nautical plateau in February 2015, the company is gradually moving towards greater industrialization. Initially an integrator using the resources of various subcontractors, such as Techni-Yacht Pinta, Chantier Hervé and Naval Force 3, Neel is now positioning itself as a full-fledged shipyard, bringing together all trades, from composite manufacturing to saddlery and joinery.

A second 2000 m² hall is available for future developments. The shipyard's ambitions don't stop at 51 feet.
